The league manager can set up multiple tournament categories as needed, define filters and eligibility rules, and require additional integrations, such as DUPR for pickleball events, FIDE ID for chess, WTN number for tennis, and more.
The category setup process starts with specifying the title, which is self-explanatory. The following steps are outlined below, divided into sections for clarity.
General settings
Category format
We cover most of competition formats—singles, doubles, and teams. Note that any format requiring more than two athletes is considered a team format.
Singles – The athlete registers for a tournament category as an individual. It is possible to require the athlete to indicate their club or team, but this would be for visual display purposes only.
Doubles – When an athlete registers for a tournament category, they must indicate their partner or create an application for partner search (if the organizer has enabled this feature).
Team – When registering for a tournament category, athletes must select a team and identify the team members (if required).
Filters
Category gender
Based on the selection, only athletes of the specified gender will be able to register for the category. If an athlete is not eligible, they won’t even see the option to select that category during registration.
If "Anyone" is selected for Doubles, then anyone can register unless the "Mixed Doubles" option is enabled. In that case, the platform will check during registration to ensure that one athlete is male and the other is female.
Min/Max skill level (e.g., DUPR for pickleball)
The league manager can set up eligibility filters based on the skill level of participants. If the skill level is outside the allowed range, the athlete will not be able to register. Note that if only the minimum is specified, the system will check only the minimum setting, and the same applies for the maximum. If the filter is not relevant, leave the input field blank—do not set it to 0.
Age filter
Similar to skill level, you can set minimum and maximum age limits. Leave the field blank for no limit; do not enter 0.
In addition to entering a number, you can specify the filter type (for age from and to separately):
Year of Birth – This will check the athlete's birth year and will not consider the day or month. For example, anyone born in 2007 (assuming the tournament year is 2025) will be considered 18 years old.
Current Age – This will check the athlete’s current age at the time of the tournament, taking into account the day and month of birth.
Country filter
You can limit registration to athletes representing specific country/countries only.
Advanced eligibility
Enable licence verification
If you want to allow only athletes with an active license to be eligible for tournament category registration, enable the checkbox and select the required license(s). If multiple licenses are selected, the system will check that the athlete has at least one of those licenses active.
Allow registration only for athletes with a confirmed club
We offer an advanced option to allow registration only for athletes who are part of a sanctioned club, commonly used by national federations.
Display settings
For each category, you can set up details to display for athletes, such as their club, rankings, birth year, and city. Enabled data items will be displayed next to athlete details across participant lists, draws, order of play, and other tournament sections.
Connection with rankings
Connecting to the rankings category
When a category gender is selected, a dropdown will appear at the bottom to select the ranking category. Based on the selection, rankings will be assigned to athletes (the system will check the latest rankings update for this category). Separate rankings should be selected for men and women. If no ranking category is selected, all tournament participants will be assigned a ranking of #0 by default.
This step should be completed after setting up the ranking categories.
Order display for seeding
By default, entries are sorted by rankings in ascending order. However, in cases where a rating system must be considered, such as FIDE (in chess), where a higher rating indicates a stronger athlete, this setting can be adjusted.
Note that if changes are required for multiple tournament categories, you can simply select multiple categories (or all) at once and click the Update Selected Categories button. This will open a form—ensure you input or adjust only the data you want to change.
If you want to disable or unselect a checkbox, first select it (the system will recognize that you are making a change), then unselect it again. This will apply the change.
Configurations for discounts, additional questions, making third-party licenses/ratings mandatory, enabling partner search and other tournament-specific settings can be configured while setting up the event.
If needed, you can select multiple categories to update or copy them all at once.
