Groups
Currently, we offer two group formats: Standard Round-Robin and King.
This is the most commonly used format, where players or teams are placed in a group and compete against each other. Based on the standings, the event either concludes or entries progress to the draw.
To clarify head-to-head point:
If two teams have the same number of points, the higher position is awarded to the winner of their direct match.
If more than two teams have the same points and an equal number of head-to-head wins, the standings will be determined by the best ratio.

This format is suitable for singles, doubles, and team categories.
The King format is commonly used for 'fun' doubles events, where players register individually and are placed into groups of 4 or 5 (as singles). Within each group, players switch partners each round, ensuring that everyone teams up with every other player once. The round ends once all possible team combinations have been played, and positions are determined based on points and ratios.
The King format is often played in two rounds. After the first round, once positions are determined, the next (final) round can be generated. The system will create the same number of groups, distributing players so that those with the best results are placed in the top group, followed by lower-ranked players in subsequent groups. This ensures that every participant plays at least three matches per round at an equal level.
With Tournated, you don't need to worry about manually creating groups and matches - it’s fully automated within our solution.
